Notes

Perhaps it's not surprising that Chris Stills' debut album, 100 Year Thing, sounds like his father, Stephen, but it is a little startling that the record is so firmly grounded in the melodic folk-rock that his dad pioneered in Crosby, Stills & Nash. Granted, 100 Year Thing sounds more contemporary than any of CSN's albums. With producer/co-songwriter Ethan Johns (himself the son of Glyn Johns), Stills has crafted an appealing collection of folky pop tinged with blues, country and a light psychedelic lilt, which is all given a welcoming adult-alternative sheen. There's a little inconsistency to the songwriting, but in general the record is a promising debut.
