Notes

Legendary Memphis producer, session cat and wild man Jim Dickinson rarely performs solo, but his friend Chuck Prophet lured him out for two nights in 1992, and the live sets from Slim's (and three tracks from McCabe's in Santa Monica) were captured on tape. Prophet and his Creatures of Habit back Dickinson on a treasure trove of songs from the annals of rock history: Sir Mack Rice's "Money Talks, '' Walter "Furry'' Lewis' "K.C. Jones'' and Dan Penn's "Pain and Strain.'' Dickinson's own "Across the Borderline'' (co-written with Ry Cooder and John Hiatt) is a modern classic, covered by Dylan and Springsteen and every singer-songwriter in between. On this night, the Creatures of Habit bring their sincere love of Dickinson's craft to that song as well as the 11 other raw, rootsy renditions included in the set.
