Notes

Sound Quality: A fair audience recording with some hiss—there are a couple of cuts and the last part of the show is missing altogether.

Song List: Substitute, Can't Explain, Squeeze Box, Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, The Acid Queen (incomplete), Fiddle About, Pinball Wizard (cuts in at beginning), I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Drowned, Bell Boy, The Punk and the Godfather, My Generation, Join Together.

Details: The band is a little on the rusty side for their first show in nearly a year and a half—Townshend nearly ruins both 'Substitute' and 'Can't Explain' as they start. But these first few shows of the year are notable for the experimental setlist that included a few numbers they dropped after only a couple of weeks. 'Squeeze Box' is the only new song included at this stage and a sloppy 'Heaven and Hell' is played for the first time since 1970 with a different arrangement at the end, where it falls apart completely. A longer Tommy set is once again the centerpiece, as the film had generated new interest among the band—a couple of songs are played in the newer arrangements featured in the film. After a mistakenly sped-up jam between 'Amazing Journey' and 'Sparks', they get into the soundtrack version of 'Eyesight to the Blind', followed by Moon's demented reading of 'Fiddle About'. Daltrey now sings 'The Acid Queen', and Moon (Uncle Ernie in the film) also "sings" 'Tommy's Holiday Camp' as only he can. 'Bell Boy' was dropped after this show, despite being heavily requested for a while after, and Townshend stops 'The Punk and the Godfather' in the middle because he can't hear Moon's drumming (P.A. problems)—he apologizes afterward for making Moon "look a right c***". 'My Generation' now moves into a barely recognizable rendition of 'Join Together', but the recording ends after this—'Won't Get Fooled Again' and an encore of '5:15' are missing.
