Notes

Essential late '50s R&B by one of rocks' most nefarious characters. Specialty Records released Williams from his contract in 1959 after he was sent to prison for drug dealing. The singer/pianist expired from a gunshot in 1980 that was rumored a hit but ruled self-inflicted. Bad career choice aside, Williams uncorks with unbridled fury on his classic musical caricatures: "Short Fat Fannie," "Bony Moronie," "Dizzy Miss Lizzy" and 21 others. He recorded these in New Orleans with some of the city's finest young musicians--Art Neville (piano), Leo Morris b.k.a. Idris Muhammad (drums) and Lee Allen (tenor sax). Early, raw R&B at its best.
