Notes

Sound Quality: A very good, but incomplete soundboard recording; 'My Generation' seems to come from a slightly inferior version of the same source.

Song List: Heaven and Hell, Can't Explain, Fortune Teller, Young Man Blues, Overture, It's a Boy, 1921, Amazing Journey (incomplete), Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, Christmas (cuts), We're Not Gonna Take It (end), Summertime Blues, Shakin' All Over, My Generation (cuts).

Details: An incomplete recording from the third of six straight shows at the Fillmore East. The guitar amplifier gives out during 'Heaven and Hell' and Townshend's anger is evident after it's over (listen closely and you can hear the tirade)—he later mentions that the same thing has happened all three nights at the Fillmore. Can't Explain' suffers from Moon's singing, as this was one of those times they decided to give him a microphone (an indiscretion of this entire tour). Later Townshend takes the rest of the group by surprise by not going into 'Tattoo' after 'Fortune Teller'—you can even hear Moon start the cymbal taps in anticipation. They decide to shorten the pre-Tommy segment of the show and go right into the rock opera after a nice 'Young Man Blues'—Townshend's playing in 'It's a Boy' showcases some very nice chord work as usual. But unfortunately only the beginning and end of the Tommy set are on the recording, which then ends with the usual three numbers. Considering the overall caliber of this tour, this version of 'My Generation' is surprisingly subpar—they sound confused and out of sorts before getting into a See Me, Feel Me' reprise that's way too slow, and Townshend also has tuning problems. A solid show overall, but not quite as impressive as some of the others from this time.
