Notes

The Warehouse

The recording is incomplete and discontinuous (ie. much of the dialogue between songs is cut). It is missing virtually all frequencies >10kHz, and is somewhat hissy. However, it is quite clear with no distortion.

Details (from http://www.geocities.com/cgwhitman2/who/who.html): A surprise soundboard recording, given that the only show the band reportedly taped on this tour was the second San Francisco date. The first four songs are missing, but it's definitely worth having for the sound quality and the great performance. 'Bargain' has evolved into a hard-edged piece, following the original arrangement less than earlier versions and with much more improvisation at the end. Townshend later throws in some interesting guitar figures during another excellent 'Won't Get Fooled Again', and Moon's drum break after the keyboard solo is particularly good here. The Tommy section includes a very nice guitar passage as a bridge between 'Overture' and 'Amazing Journey'; later they have to stop before 'See Me, Feel Me' because according to Townshend, it "doesn't work out of tuneÑwe've tried it many a time". After Entwistle seems to forget where to start the 'My Generation' solo, this unusual version doesn't move into 'Naked Eye'; a longer jam instead includes some different riffs and chord patterns before reaching a heavy end-of-show climax. Highly recommended.
