Notes

Some said it couldn't really be happening; that it was just publicity. And the fabulous Beatles proved them wrong. Others said they couldn't last more than a month or two; that nobody could hang on to that kind of fame. The Beatles, of course, proved them wrong too. Then when their first movie was released, and even the critics liked it, people began to wonder if all those Beatle fans hadn't really discovered something after all.

But you, the Beatles' fans, knew all along. You knew that the Beatles really do have a style and a sound like there's never been before. And it's simply because you like them (and they like you) that this fantastic success story has happened, and ocntinues to happen more and more all the time.

And now here's what you've all been waiting for - a new Beatles album with all new live Beatles songs, most of them, like Twist And Shout, I Feel Fine, Baby's In Black, Help, All My Loving, She Loves You and A Hard Day's Night, composed by that hit song-writing team of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

These are the favorites performed live by the four boys who have proven themselves to be the biggest live-favorites of all. Here's Beatles LIVE '65.

THE BEATLES "LIVE '65"

Tracks #1-12: recorded live Atlanta Stadium, Atlanta, GA, August 18, 1965
Tracks #13-25: recorded live Empire Stadium, Vancouver, Canada, August 22, 1964

A couple of historical notes, borrowed w/o permission from the Barry Miles book, "The Beatles - A Diary," regarding these performances:

August 18 [1965] - The Beatles flew in to Atlanta that morning and did just one concert, to 35,000 people at the Atlanta Stadium. The new baseball stadium had a very fine sound system which the group talked about for days after, since at most venues they could rarely hear themselves play. [After the performance, the Beatles flew out of Atlanta, arriving in Houston, TX at 2am.]

August 22 [1964] - Empire Stadium, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The show began at 8:14 and The Beatles came on at 9:23. Despite the long show [opening acts included the Bill Black Combo, The Exciters, The Righteous Brothers, and Jackie DeShannon], many reporters still thought that The Beatles' 29-minute set was too short. William Littler, in a grumpy piece in the Vancouver Sun, said, "Seldom in Vancouver's entertainment history have so many (20,261) paid so much ($5.25 top price) for so little (27 minutes) as did The Beatles in Empire Stadium Saturday night."

Three attempts were made to smash the ten-foot high stadium gates, and it finally buckled under the strain seconds after The Beatles began their performance, but only a dozen or so fans managed to get in before police and ushers got it closed again and held it shut with their bodies. Their exit was timed to perfection. They completed "Long Tall Sally," bowed low while unstrapping their guitars, bolted from the stage into waiting limousines and with motorcycle outriders, were out of the stadium fewer than 30 seconds from their last note. The Beatles drove straight to the airport where they caught a plane to Los Angeles.

Thousands of teenagers left their seats and rushed the stage, crushing hundreds of young girls against the restraining fence. Dozens of girls suffered broken ribs and hundreds were treated for hysteria and shock.
