The first Internet Bootleg.

1. Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!
Hamburg Performance
25 Dec 1962
SOURCE: Star-Club Sampler Tapes
These are the original unedited and unprocessed recordings, with chat between songs not heard elsewhere. According to the book "From Cavern To Star-Club", this sampler tape has an extra two songs: "Sweet Little Sixteen" (12/25/62) and "Your Feet's Too Big" (12/28/62). Doug Sulpy reports that an even longer sampler tape is now in circulation with the following additional songs: "A Taste Of Honey", "Till There Was You" (incomplete), "Lend Me Your Comb", and "To Know Her Is To Love Her" (12/28/62); and "Roadrunner" (12/31/62).

6. Side By Side
BBC
1 Apr 1963
SOURCE: BEEB Sampler Tape
This version of the "Side By Side" theme song has only been booted on the vinyl bootleg "Directly From Santa Claus".

7. Side By Side
BBC
4 Apr 1963
SOURCE: "The Beatles At The Beeb, Volume One" LP
This is the second version of the "Side By Side" theme - the Pyramid and Great Dane CD releases chopped out a few notes of the music while attempting to remove the gap in the source tape.

8. Bad To Me
Acoustic Demo
May 1963
HR.36
SOURCE: "Not For Sale" LP
John's demo, from acetate. The CD release on "Acetates" has heavy noise reduction and is slightly incomplete at both ends.

9. Pop Go The Beatles
Pop Go The Beatles
24 May 1963
Recorded on 24 May 1963 for Pop Go The Beatles and used as a jingle for the BBC series.

SOURCE: "The Beatles At The Beeb, Volume Three" LP
This is the longest version available of the closing theme music, coming from the 7/16/63 broadcast. Great Dane's boxed set fades 22 seconds earlier.

10. P.S. I Love You
BBC
17 Jun 1963
SOURCE: "Radio Sessions 1962-1965" CD
These two tracks from "Pop Go The Beatles", episode 4, were cut from an early line-up of Apple's "Live At The BBC". They appeared from that source on this Japanese bootleg, in upgraded sound compared to Great Dane's box.

11. Twist And Shout

12. It Won't Be Long
Take Unknown
30 Jul 1963
SOURCE: Unbooted tape
The basic tracks for part of the commercially released take, this Alf Bicknell tape has been previously booted on "Maybe You Can Drive My Car" but is in slightly better quality here.
Take 7 ?

13. (Medley)

_Goodbye
BBC
3 Sep 1963
SOURCE: BEEB Sampler Tape
Besides the usual "goodbye song" from the final episode of "Pop Go The Beatles", this tape has an extra "bye-bye" followed by the last-ever airing of the closing theme, none of which has been booted, to my knowledge.

14. Open Message To Australia
Take 4
12 Sep 1963
SOURCE: "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: A History Of The Beatle Years" radio series
Many reference books have claimed that the message to Australia on the various "Talk Down Under" interview discs comes from this date (it's actually two separate recordings from 4/18/63 and 3/2-6/64). Here we have the real thing - the first three takes were addressed directly to 2SM DJ Bob Rogers, and this fourth was an "Open Message" for broadcast on any station. This comes from reel E 50527, which also contains recordings of "Hold Me Tight" and "Don't Bother Me" that have been bootlegged in their entirety.

15. Twist And Shout
TV
Sunday Night At The London Palladium
13 Oct 1963
SOURCE: "The Beatles At The Beeb, Volume Seven" LP
For a long time, this was the only song circulating from this historic performance. A complete tape of this show finally turned up on the "Roadrunner" CD, but it's from an inferior source tape (with noticeable bleed-through of unrelated material) and Paul's intro to this song is less complete.

16. Radio Newsreel Interview
16 Oct 1963
SOURCE: "SPLHCB: A History Of The Beatle Years" radio series
This has also been released on "Attack Of The Filler Beebs, Episode One", where the source was "The BBC's Lost Beatles Tapes". This version has some extra chat with Ringo which was edited from the middle of that broadcast.

17. All My Loving
TV
Morecambe & Wise Show
2 Dec 1963
TV631202.02
SOURCE: Videotape of original program
The other two songs from this performance have been released on "Anthology 1", and the previously-booted version of "All My Loving" (on "Hollywood Bowl Complete") had the first few seconds missing, replaced by a section from later in the song.

18. Long Tall Sally
Concert
Washington
11 Feb 1964
C640211.12
SOURCE: Apple's Electronic Press Kit for Anthology
This song is apparently missing from all kinescope copies of the Washington, D.C. concert, but Apple unearthed the original videotape late in the production of "Anthology". This track has very recently been booted on the Silent Sea label.

19. Talking Guitar Blues
TV
21 Feb 1964
SOURCE: Videotape of original program
This is merely George messing around on guitar while The Beatles pack in their suite at the Deauville Hotel in Miami. We also hear whistled or sung versions of "Maria" and "Jet Song" from "West Side Story" as well as Paul and Ringo hamming it up for the Maysles brothers' camera. A shorter version of this was released on "The First U.S. Visit" videotape, but this is from the unedited footage seen in "What's Happening! The Beatles In The USA", broadcast on CBS-TV 11/13/64.

20. Train Music
25 Feb-1 Mar 1964
SOURCE: Videotape of film restoration on AMC
Producer Walter Shenson claims that this recording heard in the film "A Hard Day's Night" was performed by The Beatles, presumably when the other soundtrack songs were taped at EMI.

21. Tell Me Why
Regular
Stereo
SOURCE: Videotape of film restoration on AMC
The mix heard on the original mono soundtrack of "A Hard Day's Night" has a different lead vocal track from John to any released version. This is most noticeable during the middle eight.

22. Long Tall Sally
Regular
Take 1 RM1 - US
1 Mar 1964
SS.PM1.10.01.RM1a.US
SOURCE: "The Beatles' Second Album" LP
This is probably RM1 from 3/10/64, and it has less reverb on the vocal track than other mixes. Unavailable on bootleg CD, as far as I can tell.

(No echo when compared to the UK mix)

23. You Can't Do That
Radio
BBC
31 Mar 1964
SOURCE: "The BBC's Lost Beatles Tapes" radio series
The BBC obviously found a superior tape of this song than had ever been bootlegged previously. This is from the 4/4/64 broadcast of "Saturday Club".

24. Shout
TV
Around The Beatles
19 Apr 1964
SOURCE: "Not Guilty" LP
This was recorded at IBC studios for the "Around The Beatles" TV special. The best CD source, Yellow Dog's "Ultimate Collection, Volume One" boxed set, fades the ending slightly. Here the song comes to an abrupt halt.

25. I'll Be Back
Regular
RM3
22 Jun 1964
US mono mix

SOURCE: "Beatles '65" LP
Apparently RM3 from 6/22/64, at a slower speed than the UK mono mix, and with quieter percussion.

26. I Saw Her Standing There
Concert
Blokker
6 Jun 1964
These performances are from the afternoon concert in Blokker, The Netherlands. The first song originates in a Dutch newsreel, "Beatles Take Over Holland", and the second is from a report on the radio program "Echo".

28. She Loves You
Concert
Blokker
6 Jun 1964
SOURCE: Unbootlegged tape
Here are two songs from the evening show at Blokker. Although a better-sounding tape has been bootlegged, it is missing the end of "She Loves You" and the fragment of "Long Tall Sally".

30. Bourée)
23 Jun 1964
SOURCE: " !" LP
From a recording made by Bob Rogers in the St. George Hotel, Wellington, New Zealand. This is a bit of classical-style playing by Paul which didn't make it into the legitimate "Talk Down Under" releases.

31. Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!
Outtake
BBC
17 Jul 1964
SOURCE: "From Us To You: A Parlaphone Rehearsal Session" LP
The complete session tape for the 8/3/64 broadcast of "From Us To You" has been on bootleg since 1978. Much of it was included on Great Dane's set and "Attack Of The Filler Beebs, Episode Two", but the songs that didn't make it are included here. The performances are the same as broadcast, but extra chat and guitar notes can be heard between the songs.

Otherwise unbooted is the brief false start preceding take 9, which is unfortunately buried beneath dialogue.

This short segment has a few lines which didn't make it to Vigotone's "The Ultimate Beatles Christmas Collection" CD.
