LA DE DA'S - How Is The Air Up There? 1966-1967
(Ascension ANCD 018)
The most popular New Zealand group of the 60's.

This New Zealand band formed in 1964 and soon set about emulating The Rolling Stones. They played loud, wore their hair long and shared their idols love of black American music. They recorded their first single Little Girl on the obscure Talent City Auckland label in 1965. They were later spotted by Eldred Stebbing who put them in his studio in January 1966. They took an obscure song, How Is The Air Up There? by U.S. garage outfit The Changing Times and turned it into a Kiwi fuzz garage classic. Hear the result on Wild Things, Vol. 1, along with the follow-up Don't You Stand In My Way, an original in similar mould. During 1966 they were at the forefront of Auckland's mod scene and played a key role in setting mod fashions.
In May 1967, they headed for Australia, basing themselves in Sydney. They were at the forefront of the city's flower power movement but never gained wide acceptance either there or later when they spent time in England.

Re-issue of this collection of classic La De Da's 1966-1967 material, this release comprise of the bands first album, some of the second, plus singles and EP's tracks featuring the garage punk classic "How is the air up there?" along with swag more great tunes in the same vein of Pretty Things / Small Faces.
