Infos: It had become a tradition for the Stones to begin each tour with a "thank you" show for the community that put up with them and the associated mania of pretour rehearsals.
The band had been rehearsing in a girlīs school in nearby Washington, Connecticut since mid-July, much to the dismay of many local citizens. Toadīs Place, in nearby New Haven (home of Yale University), is an established northeast tour stop for many well-known artists. And Toadīs provided the venue for the Stones try out their Steel Wheels set on 500 lucky folks. The Rolling Stonesī appearance was unannounced to the public and unbilled. The Stones (minus the Uptown Horns and backing vocalists Fowler, Fischer and Mizelle) would play following that nightīs regularly scheduled act, a local band called Sons of Bob.
