Notes

All audible song and notes conceived and uttered or fingered by OLIVER CHAPLIN with a contribution from some smaller winged creatures. Recorded mostly on the farm in Wales during early 1974 within shouting distance of the Standing Stone. Everything was recorded by Oliver directly onto a Teac 4 channel machine using one microphone and/or direct injection guitar – no synthesized sounds. Subsequently mixed by CHRIS CHAPLIN. Very rare private pressed album, only about 200 LPs were pressed. A maelstrom of folk, blues, and acid rock with distinctive BEEFHEARTIAN overtones.

Bluesy loner psych from the Welsh backwoods. Barrett by way of Beefheart? Sure. Immaculate recording, done by Oliver (Chaplin)'s brother, the BBC sound engineer who recorded Jimi Hendrix's famous radio sessions. Oliver was the music man no label could charm. Virgin certainly tried, but Oliver's contempt for the music industry just ran too deep. Standing Stone is an uncorrupted testament to his unique personal vision.
