GUESS WHO, THE

December 10, 1970 (2nd show)
Hutchison, KS

5.5/10, fair, clear, somewhat distant AUD recording; tape hiss present

When this was originally seeded, there was some discussion about the exact location of the show, as well as the setlist. I don't know who came up with the name "Tribute To Jimi Hendrix," but it's there in the cover art that somebody made, and that I've included in the torrent. The eTree entry on this boot lists it as "Jam." I don't have the original setlist/info file, and don't know what it was originally called by the seeder. The cover art lists the third track as "We're Coming To Dine," but from the Amazon.com listing of the Share The Land album, it appears to be called "We're Coming To Dinner." I think the consensus was that this show took place at the Kansas State Fair, in Hutchison, Kansas. eTree lists it as being the Kansas City Fairgrounds. I might be wrong, but I think one of the thread contributers said he was at the show, and could verify the location.

Anyways, it's a below average sounding show. Perhaps not bad considering the era it was from, and the relatively scarcity of Guess Who recordings. Although there's tape hiss, the band and vocals come across clear, and aren't distorted. I'd like to say it's a spirited performance, but Burton is a real smart ass that night, and doesn't seem to be enjoying it. His remark about the Women's Liberation Association in his prelude to American Woman was kind of funny though.

The lineup for this show consisted of:

Burton Cummings
Jim Kale
Greg Leskiw
Garry Peterson
Kurt Winter
