As part of A&M's 1987 anniversary Classics series, Cat Stevens' Classics, Vol. 24 (the volume indicating its position in the series, not the 24th Cat Stevens collection) winds up having all the faults of this particular series, dividing its 20 songs between hits and album tracks, creating an unsatisfying retrospective. Many of his biggest songs from his singer/songwriter albums for A&M are here, along with selections from the Harold & Maude soundtrack, but the remainder of the collection isn't particularly well-chosen, as the quality of the album tracks vacillates drastically. Though there are good moments here, it pales considerably in comparison to both the earlier Greatest Hits and the definitive 2000 sampler, The Very Best of Cat Stevens.
