Notes

These are about the best quality "Abbey Road" outtakes you're going to find.
Tracks 1-6 & 9 are the digital equivalent of "No 3 Abbey Road NW8".
Tracks 7 & 8 are "A Huge Medley Parts 1 & 2", which had been on LP before, but were new to CD at the time.

Bonus Tracks 10-14 are from "Get Back" sessions at Apple Studio.

4. Oh! Darling (Lennon/McCartney)
Take Unknown
26 Apr 1969
Formerly listed as "Take 26, 18 Jul 1969" but according to many sources, it's an unknown take (although take 26 seems the best assumption) from 26 Apr 1969.

By the second middle eight, Paul's voice has given out, and he sings the remainder in a weak falsetto.

5. Maxwell's Silver Hammer (Lennon/McCartney)
Take 21
9 Jul 1969
Pitch correction: -0.1%

6. Something (Harrison)
Take 37
Reduction Mix
11 Jul 1969

7. A Huge Melody (Part 1)
RS2
30 Jul 1969
The second experimental mix of the "Abbey Road" Side 2 medley. Many of the overdubs have yet to be added- there is no orchestra, and many harmonies and solos are missing. The segue from "You Never Give Me Your Money" into "Sun King" is facilitated by a sustained organ chord. The first edit of this medley placed "Her Majesty" between "Mean Mr. Mustard" and "Polythene Pam", but Paul didn't like it there, and asked for it to be removed.

You Never Give Me Your Money (Lennon/McCartney)
Take 40
RS2
30 Jul 1969
Take 40 is a reduction mix from take 30.
Acetate discs were cuts on 31 Jul 1969 featuring the two Abbey Road medleys.

8. A Huge Melody (Part 2)
RS2
30 Jul 1969

In this version, "The End" was still called "Ending", and there were no vocals yet.
The acetate of this remix was cut at Apple by Malcolm Davies, 31 July 1969.
Pitch: the 3 sections of this medley are each at a different pitch. From the opening to "Ending" is +2.8. At "Ending" it goes +1.0, and where the piano comes in for "and in the end...", it goes -1.3.
Note: there has been much speculation on why this piece is so distorted. I think it's because whoever taped the acetate did it at too high a recording level. No version of this has ever surfaced that isn't distorted.

Golden Slumbers (Lennon/McCartney)
Take 17
RS2
3 Jul 1969
RS2 on 30 Jul 1969

Carry That Weight (Lennon/McCartney)

The End (Lennon/McCartney)

23 Jul 1969
RS1 on 30 Jul 1969

9. Her Majesty (Lennon/McCartney)
Take 3
2 Jul 1969
SS.AR.17.03
Take 3 features a final chord that was mixed out on the released version (RS1)

This is the cleanest version on CD, but it has a start-up 'wow' in the tape speed, which ruins it for all time.
