Atlanta was probably one of Jimi's strongest concerts from the 1970 tour, Berkeley being probably the best (imho). There are a couple errors on this disc. On the back it says this was recorded at the Atlanta Pop Festival on April 7th, 1970, when in fact it should be July 4th, 1970. I think the people putting together the packaging read the date (which would be 04/07/70) in the wrong way. But that's a minor issue. The next error is the first three tracks on this disc. They are credited to being from Atlanta, but are in fact from Jimi's May 30th, 1970 rehearsals at Berkeley. Good tracks though, Blue Suede Shoes was even officially released on the In The West album. As for the Atlanta tracks, they are great. A note however, this isn't the complete concert. The first 6 songs from the concert are missing. They can be found on the Oh Atlanta release, which is missing the last two tracks to be a complete concert. Oh Atlanta is made up from different sources (soundboard and official), while Atlanta Special appears to be from one source (soundboard). Why Genuine Pig decided to put on the Berkeley tracks instead of more Atlanta ones I don't know. But between the two discs, you can make up the entire concert. For more information, check out the Oh Atlanta review.
Quality is quite good on this one. I like that it comes from one source, unlike the Oh Atlanta release. But I would have preferred that someone put out a complete Atlanta set (from one source) on two discs, and then put on filler tracks, rather than getting an incomplete concert.
