NOTES ::: Quality-wise this ain't a stunner, but it's listenable & I haven't seen it uploaded before. Check the samples. There are a few small cuts, 3 songs start a bit late (taper conservin' batteries) & 2 cut off, but the set is basically intact. I did a bit a fades & edits on cuts, lowered the levels on a few microphone bumps (which helped a lot!), it's pitched, low gen, & having said all that, the band is in great form & many of you won't want to miss this. The audience is not too instrusive during the music.

Recording Information ::: master mono audience tape -> 1st generation tape -> 2nd generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on

Playback 2011-07-08 ::: 2nd generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer, EAC secure -> wavs -> Audacity (fades &/or glitches, volume adjustments, no EQ) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded 2011-10-22

Line-up ::: Jorma Kaukonen - guitars, vocals // Paul Kantner - guitars, vocals // Grace Slick - vocals // Jack Casady - bass // Marty Balin - vocals // Papa John Creach - violin // David Freiberg - vocals // John Barbata - drums

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

Cool Sonics Series CS-040 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Paul's done gone 70 years old this year. What does that make you? I seem to be in the minority about this era of the band, but no apologies from me, I think they were better than ever _a powerhouse_ partly due to the diversity & the fact the Tuna faction is cranking (though not as a separate set but part of the Airplane, so no upload problems!). The band is hyped about their new songs & you can definitely hear what's going on. There are a occasional momentary spots of distortion that sound like very mild diginoise but mine came direct from analog tape long ago.

I seriously wonder about this date. For one thing the next shows & the East Coast promotional gigs for the new album start August 10th. The college did have other summer rock shows thru the years, so it can't be ruled out. Guess some folks have done in depth research on this & can weigh in & likely someone was there (Mr Pipes?). Some folks claim this was the first live version of "Trial By Fire", but I reckon it depends on whether the date is correct. Mr Abbot can rest assured track 3 is "Feel So Good" & not "Wild Turkey" (if he needs more work for his epic JA database website). Too bad "Diana" starts late, as we don't have many versions, but "Blind John" is a treat right from the start. More recordings on the way. Until recently, I had very slow internet access & am fixing my ratio as fast as I can, now that I am able. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace.

Kudos to Zongo for life support & Lochner for mikes & much more. A bow to Fast Freddie for running Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace) for over 30 years of trading & friendship. Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Weeks, Dixon, Moore, Gough & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Parrish & all the traders who housed thru my music acquisition & travel years. Hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Little Queenie (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Glasses raised to Byron for musical horizon expansion & much obliged to J & Thurston for keepin' my concert fires burnin' since my continental shift. Thanks to the Mods for keepin' DIME alive. Yers truly, Kneesfudd
