Comments:
1 - HELP!! If you have any uncirculated SPIRIT shows, or better quality FM
broadcasts than what's been posted here before, please share them. If you
know anybody who has shows that fit this category that aren't on DIME, please
dub off their stuff and share it. I'm trying to write a book on SPIRIT and need
all the information I can get. I have a database of over 1500 gigs 1967-1996, and
want to find as much information as I can to add to it. If you have any memories
of where you saw SPIRIT, the more specific the better (venue, city, date, supporting
bands, etc.), I'd love to know that as well. Please leave that in the comments
section or PM me. Thank you!
2 - Show description & comments follow:
This is a recording of the biggest show on the FARTHER ALONG tour, opening for
Peter Frampton during the FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE era. I have no idea how many
folks were there, but it sounds like a big place. The people who taped this were close
to the P.A., likely down near the front of the stage. There is lots of crowd noise mostly
telling the people in front to sit down, or to turn up the volume. A group called PAGLIARO
opened the show, and from the review I have, didn't go down too well with the crowd.
It sounds like Randy might have been having some technical problems on "Veruska", but
after that things are fine. John Turlep's (or Terlep's) bass starts out sounding like he's
trying out for FUNKADELIC, but the sound people finally sort it out. Randy tries to make
the crowd settle down, and stops his performance of "Farther Along" to stop a fight in
the audience. At the tape flip on "It's All The Same", the tape is moved back, and faded
in at a point prior to the tape flip, losing no music. Obviously the master was recorded on
a C-120, and then dubbed to a 90 minute tape before it got to me. After the end of "I Got
A Line On You", the taper, who must have had a stereo microphone, pans the channels
right and left, making for some weird effects. From the comments made at the end, it
sounds like Randy does a Jimi, and burns his guitar at the end of "All Along The Watchtower",
but I'm not certain. Was anybody on DIME there?
I wouldn't recommend this tape for the casual SPIRIT fan, but since every SPIRIT fan I've
ever met, and here on DIME is hardly casual, I'm sure you'll want it! There's not a lot
from this era to be had. Enjoy!
