Notes

Upon this CD are 4 David Bowie (supposedly) songs, and one piece of music from The Hype (Mick Ronson, Tony Visconti, and John Cambridge)

The Bowie Part:

1. Back To Where You've Never Been
2. Penny Lane.
3. The Mask (Unreleased Album Edit)
4. Ching A Ling (Full Length Version)

These 4 songs you may be somewhat acquainted with. Penny Lane is, questionably not Bowie. "Back To Where You've Never Been" may have been made available through collectors earlier, and Ching A Ling may have had a legitimate release.

The Hype:

1. "Hype Jam" 1970.

Yes, folks, it's untitled. From the sound of it, it is likely to have been performed just prior to, or a little after Mick Ronson met David Bowie. It definitely has the "heavy guitar" feel of the March 1970 BBC show.

"Back To Where You've Never Been and Hype jam were posted on BowieAudio a couple of years ago.

I am 100% sure they are fakes - I have heard the real version of Back To Where You've Never Been, and it is completely different. It has almost flamenco-styled guitar and vocals by Tony Hill. Bowie only does backing vocals.

That Hype jam doesn't sound like Mick Ronson to me either, and the fact there are no vocals is of course suspicious.

Penny Lane was proved to be a fake years ago. I haven't checked, but I suspect The Mask is just recorded from the video and Ching a Ling is very probably the bootleg version where Bowie's vocals weren't edited out as on the Love You Till Tuesday album/VHS."
