This show is NOT the offical "Whispering Pines : Live at the Getaway" (Dreamsville Records, Japan YDCD-0082; US CD - 2005 - Other Peoples Music CD-OPM-6603) release. That is from 1985-10-12, and feature guests Rick Danko and Jim Weider on some tracks. This is a from completely different night.
Quite an emotional listen. Richard is an icon with me. He has always been my favorate rock vocalist, and so much more. His fading voice here isn't what it used to be, but you really feel he is trying his best. This can also feel the passion in the playing of the out of tune piano, as he tries to "work around" some problems. Richard is weakened, yes, but none of his passion is lost... at least not with me. If an artist's goal is to move you, then Manuel had this in aces. His sublime sadness is a powerful reminder for you to never stop embracing life. Thanks for everything, Richard, my life would have been way more empty without you.
As always, enjoy!
