Behind Harlem 9/5/69 this is the worst audience recording know to exist of Hendrix. That said, it is the only portal to the Evansville, Indiana show and it can be enjoyed for what it is: a piece of history. The recorder used was simply overwhelmed by the volume and the recoding is distorted at every turn. Oddly, at points the guitar, vocals, drums and bass are audible. This is a second generation recording, acquired from well know Hendrix biographer Kees deLange, so this is pretty much as "good" as it gets. Things to listen for: Billy Cox getting his bass to "scream" at :27 of "Spanish Castle Magic." I nice version of "Red House" which the crowd acknowledges early on with applause and Jimi seems to give a little "thank you" at :47. Jimi seems to have some equipment troubles before and then during "Machine Gun" so we get a ultra short version. He seems about to give it another go, but then launches into "Message To Love." Well, you can figure out the rest of the shpw if you dare!
