THE POLICE
MY FATHERS PLACE
ROSLYN, LONG ISLAND
OCTOBER 2, 1979
WLIR-FM
I seeded this back in 2005. I figured that it was time to start re-seeding many of the shows that I recorded throughout the years. Back in the heydays of FM radio, I lived in Flushing Queens, and at the time, I had an FM antennae on my roof that picked up WLIR, WNEW, WPIX, WPLJ and WFUV at their optimum. My equipment was pretty good at the time of these recordings and it's time for me to start sharing what I have again. I probably have 400 or so FM shows. Quite a few of them are from the WLIR Tuesday Night Concert series.
WOW !! The response to the first three POLICE shows at the Palladium, Hotel Diplomat and first MFP shows was great. So, I've decided to continue with them and put up this second show from My Fathers Place in Roslyn, Long Island.
As for this show, it is the second of two MFP shows broadcast by WLIR-FM. The WLIR Tuesday Night Concert series broke so many big acts that I could not count them all. I was a regular at MFP back then and used timers and members of my family to tape the shows that I was at. Occasionally the shows would be broadcast on a different day than they were recorded on, and on holidays WLIR would run 24 or 48 hours of continuous live shows from their archives. From what I understand most of these tapes have been lost when WLIR folded. A few years ago I was contacted by an employee of the new WLIR who wanted my original recordings to fill out their library. We never managed to hook up, but I'll continue to upload them here for all to share. Enjoy it. The Police are in fine form and the material was fresh and enthusiasm was high. This show is six months after the original MFP broadcast and you can hear how the band has fine tuned their act and grown as their rise to the top of the charts is in full flight.
The next show up will be the Bottom Line show from April 4, 1979 and I have save the best for last. It's a "must have" if you are a POLICE fan. After that I'll move onto something else. Anybody like ROCKPILE???
Keep watching this space.
Some notes about the lineage. This was one of my first attempts to transfer my tapes to CD. I used a Pioneer F-7272 cassette deck and a Sony RCD-W500C/W100 Compact Disc recorder and the results are very pleasing to my ears. I hope to yours also. As with most of my recordings, I left in the DJ's comments both before and after the show. If you don't care for that information then just don't burn the first and last tracks to your CD.
