The follow-up to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Bandwagonesque, Thirteen has suffered by comparison, with the band declaring it wasn't an easy album to make. However, it's a more than worthy successor and trimmed to 10 tracks would have been even better. The opening quartet (three of which were singles) are prime Fanclub, with 120 mins and Escher not far behind. the 'second side' is less immediate, with Raymond McGinley's Tears Are Cool a subtle highlight. The Japan edition added six more tracks, all b-sides in the UK. Notably Brendan O'Hare has two tracks here, his last contribution for the band. The album title supposedly derives from the Big Star song of the same name, although the thirteen tracks and it being the Third Teenage Fanclub album (if you disregard The King) may have all factored.
